Jill Stein
Dear Friend,
I’m writing to give you an early heads up, and ask for your support in an unprecedented opportunity to tip the balance in 2010 towards a healthy, just, sustainable future – in Massachusetts and beyond.
It’s no secret that “change we can believe in” is falling short. On Capitol Hill and Beacon Hill the sellouts continue apace – to health insurance giants, Wall Street banksters, war hawks and climate spoilers. Business as usual is still taking a heavy toll on our jobs, health, communities and environment, pushing us towards the brink. More than ever, the old paradigm of infinite growth and corporate profiteering is colliding with the physics of a finite world, and the morality of a human one. More than ever, there is cause to rise up for justice, survival and the future we deserve.
As part of that rising up, I’ll soon be announcing a campaign for governor of Massachusetts, a campaign to take our future back from lobbyists and insiders, and get Massachusetts working for the people, and the environment our economy depends on. The campaign will be a vehicle for our shared vision that grows more essential with every passing year: vibrant, secure local economies, community-based green jobs, alternative clean energy and local agriculture (two of the fastest growing sectors around), an end to needless, cruel home foreclosures, and Medicare for all.
And here’s what’s so exciting. There has never been a better time and place for real change. As the second round of “yes we can” withers on the vine, Massachusetts is seeing once again that real change must come from outside of moneyed interests and the politicians they fund. The governor’s dwindling approval ratings underscore the opening. And, since the three CEO/politicians heading for the ballot differ only in fine points of their shared Wall Street vision – they’ll be splitting the business-as-usual vote three ways.
A four-way race can be won with as little as 26% of the vote. In our 2006 race for Secretary of the Commonwealth, we received nearly 20%, thanks to supporters like you. So it’s not unthinkable that we could potentially win this race. But here’s what’s assured: We can speak truth to power, hold their feet to the fire, and give business as usual a run for their money like they’ve never seen. We can open the gates of power, force real debate, and get neglected critical solutions back on the agenda. And we can mobilize the power of grassroots democracy for real change – not merely to believe in, but to actually accomplish. Because our jobs, our environment, our communities and lives depend on it.
Please seize this moment of both crisis and staggering opportunity. Go to www.jillstein.org and contribute whatever you can afford, up to the $500 limit. (With each $500, for example, we can mail to 500 more targeted voters and tip them our way!) You can also sign up to volunteer, hold a house party, and get further information as the campaign develops.
Help pull us back from the brink to make Massachusetts a model of the healthy, just green future we deserve – and that is still within our reach. Circumstances have aligned like never before to make a breakthrough possible. Now we just need your support to make it happen.
I look forward to seeing you on the campaign trail soon!
Upward, jill
PS. In my 2002 bid for governor, I was voted 1st and 2nd place in the televised debates – until I was blocked from participating. This time, it will be virtually impossible for them to keep us out. With your help, we can develop an organization on the ground to leverage our debate exposure (and more) into an enduring grassroots force for change. I thank you for being there at the very beginning.
