The People's State of the Union: The agenda Wall Street doesn't want you to hear about

psotu-flat.jpgOn Tuesday, January 24th, President Obama will deliver his State of the Union address. There will also be responses and commentary from the Republican and Democratic parties.

On Wednesday, January 25th, at 8:30pm Eastern, we invite you to participate in The People's State of the Union: A Green New Deal for America. You'll hear about the real problems America is facing --and the solutions that Wall Street and the Washington establishment don't want you talking about. We can have an economy that provides jobs for everyone without depressing wages or destroying the environment. We can get Wall Street off our backs and win control of our lives and common future.

On this special online broadcast, you will hear presidential candidate Jill Stein describe the Green New Deal that can reclaim our future and fulfill the promise of America. Lines will be open for your questions and ideas. All you need is an internet connection and a computer.

Supporters are getting together at over 50 house parties around the country on Wednesday night to participate in this event. You can join them by hosting your own People's State of the Union house party, or by attending one of the "open invitation" house parties published on our events page.

Here is the schedule for Wednesday, January 25th: At 8:30pm Eastern, view the People's State of the Union, right here, on this website; at 9:10pm Eastern, we will begin a live video conversation with Jill Stein (again, this live video will appear here, at

our house party in norwood was well received. we had a great discussion after we watched jill’s speech. we thought she did wonderfully and that her four-point program was full of strong and powerful ideas.

We had 14 people at our “house” party in Colorado Springs. Had some problem with the wifi hook up speed and buffering but got the whole speech which was cheered. Unfortunately the Q and A didn’t work for us smoothly enough to stay with it.

i’m ready to download jill’ speech from last night and show it at a house party tonight in norwood, colorado. can someone point my in the direction how to do this?
also, we had a showing scheduled for saturday in telluride at the library but someone complained and the library said it was partisan and they couldn’t show it, without showing the president’s speech and the republican response. so, it looks like tonight’s house party is the only one in san miguel county…
commented 2012-01-25 23:44:12 -0500 · Flag – just checked it, can’t find my “pitch” maybe someone else could try it and then we could give it “thumbs up”

Easy does it, folks. I was not happy about the format or technical quality either. Remember that the session last night was organized by volunteers, and it was not a campaign event. Even if it had been, however, please be gentle with your criticism. There is only one full time staff person on the campaign right now, and while that is changing next week, we will be relying on volunteer labor, including yours, throughout.

Listen to S H! Great comments and suggestions, especially about the quality of the video. Things like lighting, and silly details like wardrobe and make-up will quickly turn off skeptics.

The Green media team is going to need a LOT of rework or new staffing, otherwise you’ll look like a joke.

Could you provide a link to that pitch?

I just “pitched a story” re coverage of Dr. Stein on the Real News site – maybe it would help if a bunch of folks gave it a thumbs up on the site ….

Last night’s production was put together by the Green Party of the U.S. media committee. Jill was happy to participate. We will not be using Skype tonight — that was the issue last night, apparently.

Wes, i am glad you commented on that – i have noticed the rather poor quality of the live feed streams on other occasions (this was not the first time) often with distracting noises in the background – it is crucial that the campaign get some high quality gear that focuses on the candidates and not on the operators ….

This is really important – as you get more and more folks who are not “the choir” watching, there will be little motivation to overlook these “technical problems” – no second chance to make a first impression.

One of the best investments, IMO, the campaign could make …

Make sure you have a high quality video stream for both Jill’s speech and the Q&A afterward. Last night Jill’s video stream was really bad. There must have been some technical problem like a slow internet line or a slow computer. Also make sure the audio levels are the same for all participants. Craig’s audio level was way louder than the others. I had to keep turning the volume up and down.

On Occupier “cooption” — Why not coopt the Green Party. We endorsed your actions early in the Fall. We have ballot access in many states. You can occupy the political space by Registering Green Party in those states. You can even run for office and claim that your platform is seen favorably by a majority of Americans! Whoo Hooo

yes, it’s been a while since i tried to work on the national green scene. glad to see you’re still at it, amigo. jill is a special one. won me over, and i’m still beating the build-from-the-bottom-up drum (not top down). but jill is the exception.

The “Independent Greens” is not affiliated with the Green Party of the United States or Jill Stein for President.

The specific web address is — just tune in.

And yes, the video will be available after the fact for viewing online or download.

sorry to bug you guys – but i keep getting notices from “Independent Greens” u-tube channel (which i signed up for) that take me to 10 second videos that refer to various interviews – but there are no links to the interviews themselves – is this like “a preview of coming attractions” ?

also, do you have a specific web address that i can copy and paste to plug folks into the State of the Union address without them having to hunt and peck all over – a particular link they can plug in and Voila! (True believers will search if need be – but newbies who just want to “check her out” won’t be quite so patient – the easier you can make it, the more folks will be inclined to watch it …)

I am a computer “idiot” and if i can’t get to something easily, i get frustrated and po’d when i can’t figure it out – not a good way to have to approach a "campaign, and i suspect I may not be alone …. no second chance to make a first impression ..

saw a few quick (~10 sec) video clips from Independent Greens, but nothing with substance that I can use to make points with ….

couple of observations -

1) Check out

There are obvious attempts to c0-opt OWS by political parties, just as there is much resistance to having OWS become “political” at all. Seems to me this could be bit of a dilemma for Greens. How to demonstrate that the Greens were the political voice of OWS even before OWS existed, without looking like Greens are trying to c0-opt it! Maybe it is by doing what i think Dr. Stein is doing – showing up, explaining her positions and agenda, and letting OWS realize, on their own, that they don’t have to start from scratch and that getting into “politics” is something they really need to do …

“if you don’t get into politics, politics will get into you” as a former Green candidate used to say…

In any case this article brings out what Ford is saying needs to be heard …. Good points (I suppose most here know that Ford has been critic of Obama from the get go …)

2) another thing that is popping up – outside of trying to c0-0pt lefties by RP folks, there are Rocky Anderson folks. Would like to know how GP is dealing with that …
I do believe that needs to be answered and i do not know how to do that in my discussions on line – help would be appreciated ….
