Got Democracy? THANK YOU FOR A BIG LEAP FORWARD!

Dear Friend,

Thank you for making this election such a strong showing for the healthy democracy we deserve! While we didn't win the office, we won over 350,000 votes, an unprecedented 18% of voters that said NO TO THE STATUS QUO, and delivered a resounding call for fundamental democratic reform. This was especially remarkable considering the near complete absence of media coverage till the final week of the election. None the less, we achieved new credibility for independent people-powered politics. We racked up an impressive list of powerful editorial board and organizational endorsements. And we forced our opponent to emerge from hiding and engage in the debate he had dodged for a year.

We have raised the reform agenda to new heights, sounding the alarm about the crisis in Massachusetts democracy. We called for eliminating the hidden tax of influence-peddling that is driving the cost of living through the roof. We called for voting rights protection, and for keeping insecure, unreliable electronic voting machines out of Massachusetts. And we illuminated common sense reforms that can open up Beacon Hill, get the big money out, and let the people back in.

Our campaign was powered not by the usual hard currency but by the high hopes and irrepressible expectations of you our volunteers. You handed out tens of thousands of flyers, posted hundreds of yard signs and phone banked relentlessly - from Easton to Easthampton, Brookline to the Berkshires, Whately to Westport, Holyoke to Marblehead, Fall River, Harvard and Taunton. In Amherst, supporters made our signs as visible as Deval Patrick's. Dedicated office workers kept the campaign foundations together; videographers and letter writers helped get the word out; musicians kept us entertained and inspired. Our achievement is a tribute to you all.

I look forward to the next chapter of this campaign as we continue to watchdog state government and blow the whistle on waste, influence-peddling and voting rights violations. Over the next month we'll be holding victory parties with our supporters across the Commonwealth, strategizing on
ways to keep building momentum. I'll keep you posted on these and other events with an occasional newsletter. Please join in as you are able. Thanks again for all you do for the healthy, just democracy we all deserve.

Upward,
Jill
